Legal and court interpreting in Scotland

In court, every word counts and nothing can be left out. We provide interpreters for legal proceedings who work in the first person, interpret in full, and stay impartial.

When people call us

  • Civil hearings, tribunals and mediation
  • Pre-hearing consultations and statement taking
  • Family and children's matters
  • Interpretation of documents read out in proceedings
  • Translation of legal and evidential documents

How we approach it

Everything, in full

Questions and answers are interpreted completely, in the first person, including hesitations, and nothing is tidied up.

Impartial and bound by confidentiality

Interpreters take no side and hold what they hear in strict confidence.

Prepared

We ask for case names, terms and documents in advance so the interpreter is not meeting key vocabulary for the first time in the room.

Booking

What helps us get it right.

The more we know before the day, the better the match. Have these to hand when you call or fill in the form.

  • The court or tribunal, date, and expected duration
  • Language and dialect, and any gender preference
  • Names of parties, case terminology and any documents that will be read out
  • Whether the court requires a particular type of interpreter. Please check this first and tell us

Questions

Legal and court: common questions

Do you supply interpreters for criminal proceedings?

Court-ordered interpreting is arranged through the court's own contracts. We work with solicitors, advice services and private clients for consultations, civil and tribunal matters. Ask us if you are unsure which applies.

Can you provide a translation that a court will accept?

Tell us which court or body, and what they have asked for. We will confirm whether we can supply a signed statement of accuracy and anything else required.

Ready when you are

Tell us what you need, and when.

A short call or message is usually enough for us to say what we can arrange and what it will cost.
