Immigration and asylum interpreting in Scotland
Immigration conversations are high stakes and often frightening. We provide impartial interpreters for solicitors, advice charities and individuals, who interpret everything that is said and nothing that is not.
When people call us
- Consultations between clients and immigration solicitors or advisers
- Preparation for interviews and hearings
- Support sessions run by charities and community organisations
- Completing applications and forms with a client
- Translation of supporting documents
How we approach it
Impartial, always
Our interpreters do not advise, comment or take sides. The professional who is responsible for the case does the advising.
Trauma-aware
Many clients have been through hard journeys. Interpreters keep a steady pace, allow pauses, and do not react to what they hear.
Careful with names and dates
Spellings, dates and place names are checked against the document, because an error here can follow someone for years.
Booking
What helps us get it right.
The more we know before the day, the better the match. Have these to hand when you call or fill in the form.
- The language and dialect, and the client's country of origin if relevant
- Whether the interpreter will need to see any documents
- Any conflict concern, for example if the interpreter should not know the client's community
- Expected length, and whether it may overrun
Languages
Available in all four.
Questions
Immigration: common questions
Do you provide interpreters for Home Office interviews?
We support legal advice, preparation and community settings. For any appointment run by an official body, check with them first about who supplies the interpreter, then talk to us about what you need.
Can you translate documents for an application?
Yes. Tell us the receiving body and any format they require, such as a signed statement of accuracy, and we will confirm what we can provide.
Ready when you are
Tell us what you need, and when.
A short call or message is usually enough for us to say what we can arrange and what it will cost.
